She died in Lubeck 5 Jan 1641. The couple had 10 sons and a daughter.

her parents Lucas Bacmeister, who among other things wrote a hymn called "Ach leue Her im höchsten thron" which I have not yet been able to track down. Lucas Bacmeister was the first of his family to have an academic career. His father, Margaretha's paternal grandfather, was a brewer in Luneburg. Before that, the Bacmeisters were bakers.

Online Database Challenge

I have accepted the The WeTree blog challenge to identify online databases that are available to me with my library card. So far I have not tried anything related to my genealogical 'obsession'. But I have discovered a valuable tool that will help Sarah and I prepare for our upcoming trip to Tuscany.

mango languages for libraries - an online language-learning system that will tutor me in Italian. It bills itself as 'the easiest way to learn a foreign language'. I have not tried this yet but rest assured I plan to try it out soon.

Some other interesting online tools available from my local library, most require library card barcode:

Ancestry Library edition (sadly only available in the library, not from home).

175th Anniversary: Elizabeth & Benjamin DOMAN

Elizabeth HAYTER and Benjamin DOMAN were married on this day in 1835, one hundred and seventy five years ago. They are the 5th Great-Grandparents of my children. The marriage was celebrated in Hill Deverill, Wiltshire.

There is a geocache there: The Deverills - Hill
Hill Deverill is a village in the Deverill Valley on the Wiltshire Downs where the western edge of Salisbury Plain meets Somerset. Deverill (or “diving rill”) refers to the rill or stream running through the valley which in places disappears underground.

Benjamin Doman was an agricultural labourer. He and Elizabeth had seven children. Their daughter Leah married Job Cox and emigrated to Southern Ontario.

Janet Low Beveridge - 6th great grandmother of my children

Two hundred and fifty one years ago today in 1759, Abraham LOW and his wife Jean WILKIE baptised their daughter Janet LOW, in Newburgh, Fife. Newburgh is on the south of the Firth of Tay.

Janet's father's family were from Tannadice, Angus. Her maternal ancestors were all from the Abdie and Newburgh area, well into the mid 1600s. (Wilkie, Bickerton, Lyall)

14 Dec 1781 Janet married David BEVERIDGE of Abdie, Fife. Their sixth child Jean BEVERIDGE was baptised at Newburgh in 1791. She married John ALISON of  Balmalcolm.  Janet and David Beveridge seem to have moved frequently; the seven children we have found were baptized over a twenty year period in Abdie, Kettle and in Newburgh. Both Janet and David Beveridge were living at the time of their grandson Alexander Alison's baptism in 1821.

1775 map has a 1775 map showing the location of the Abdie Kirk and Manse, near Lindores Loch and the village of Newburgh, with the ruins of the Lindores Abbey.

Here is a geocache that we could have done when we were there in 2004 - if we had thought to bring our GPS! Next time. A Tale of Two Churches visits both the old and new churches close to the Grange of Lindores. Coordinates for the final cache are built by visiting the 'new church' (est. 1827) as we did, before proceeding to visit the pictish "Lindores Stone" in the Mort House, and finally wandering the graveyard and the ruins of the old church, which dates back to 1242 or possibly 1178. We spent a lovely afternoon wandering around looking for signs of our Beveridges.

John LOCKETT, Walking Stick Maker, 1829-1885 Southwark

Baptised Edward John LOCKETT 13 September 1829 St. Mary's Lambeth, Surrey. Parents were John LOCKETT and his wife Sarah.

As John Edwin LOCKETT, he married Emily GRANGER (1838-aft 1901) 26 December 1859 St. Bartholomew Moor Lane, London. He was the son of John LOCKETT, hatter. She was 22 years old and the daughter of James GRANGER, Waiter.

In 1861 John & Emily Lockett were living in St. George Southwark, London Road, Surrey. He was a a Walking Stick Maker. They have a daughter Mary Ann, aged 6, whose birth I have not yet located. Not sure if Emily Granger is her mother, or if John Lockett had an earlier marriage (although he was described as a bachelor in his 1859 marriage, when Mary Ann would have been 4 or 5)

[?]  Who were Mary Ann LOCKETT's parents? There are 2 registrations in Shoreditch that are possible - Q1 1855 1c196  & Q3 1855 1c112. What happened to her after 1891, when she was living in St. Mary Newington?

A Mary Ann Lockett married Alexander Charles Bridge in Dec 1891 Wandsworth, but her father was William, a fireman.

A Mary Ann Lockett died Jun 1898 aged 51 in Camberwell 1d 454. Was this her?

[?] Who was Emily GRANGER? We have located her after her 1859 marriage, in the 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 census records. She remarried in 1888 to George MELSOM, Pocket Book Maker. Emily worked for a time as a Charwoman. There is no record of Emily or her father James in the 1841 or 1851 census, nor have we found a baptismal record.
