FHL film 2376464 - from the State Archive of the Transcarpathian Region in Uzhorod (now Ukraine)

Trying to figure out if these records will contain anything about Iza, which is certainly in the region. Of course I do not (yet!) read Cyrillic or speak Russian so simply finding out what is there  is no small task indeed.

from the Family Search catalog entry: , translated using Google Translate, and rearranged so I can make better sense of the record entry.

"Greek Catholic Church records (births, marriages, deaths, extracts, miscellaneous church records and correspondance) for multiple locations of Mukacheve Eparchy in Ungvár, Ung, Hungary and Ung district; later Užhorod, Podkarpatská Rus, Czechoslovakia; now Uzhorod, Zakarpattia, Ukraine
and Munkács, Bereg, Hungary; later Mukačevo, Podkarpatská Rus, Czechoslovakia; now Mukacheve, Zakarpattia, Ukraine. Text in Russian and Ukrainian."

I am assuming that there are several Items included on each film?
I do not have any idea what the notation "F. 151, Fr. 2, d. 134" on 2376464 might mean.
In the original Cyrillic it appears as "Ф. 151, о. 2, д. 134"
Could this refer to frame numbers on the microfilm? Districts or villages within the region? (wishful thinking on my part). There seems to be some level of duplication.
I am hoping there are actual names involved and not simply a summary of the numbers of baptisms / marriages performed. The word 'bulletin' (Ведомости) throws me for a loop.

Some Immigrants from IZA arriving at Ellis Island 1905-1924

.
At the OGS conference in Hamilton this past weekend I was fortunate enough to attend several of Lisa Alzo's sessions. I am listening as I type to her webinar on researching immigrant ancestors. I am now a huge fan, and have several of her books including Baba's Kitchen and Three Slovak Women.

At her suggestion, I am attempting to find a researcher who will be able to help me determine which records (if any) exist for our ancestral village of Iza. I have not had any luck finding anyone able to do so.

For the time being, I am going to start transcribing records for any and all immigrants from Iza. I would be very happy to hear from anyone interesting in researching Iza or other villages near to Khust.

The Carpatho-Rusyn Village of IZA

.
One frustrating brick wall in our research continues to be the difficulty in locating records for our ancestral village of Iza. I would welcome any contact from others interested in this village or region. If I have made any errors, any corrections would be appreciated. As always, this is a work in progress. We would be interested in collaborating.

Anna Voitenko has taken some striking photographs of Iza.

Vasil SABO (also known as Bill) and his wife Maria SABO came to Ontario from Iza in 1930.
They were born in Iza in the 1890s. They married around 1919 in Iza, and had three children there. In Canada, they had an additional six children.

Other surnames include:
VUCHKAN / VUCKAN,
SABOV / SABOE,
 MIKLUS / MYKLUSCH / McLUSH

For a long time, Iza was a part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Vasil and Maria Sabo could claim to be born in Hungary.

Iza in the Maramaros district in 1912

A closer look: Iza is 3 miles north of Huszt (Hungarian) / Khust (Ukrainian)

By the time Vasil Sabo migrated to the United States to work in the early 1920s, Iza was considered part of the Sub-Carpathian Rus region of Czechoslovakia.

Iza is now part of the Zakarpattia oblast in the Ukraine. It is located roughly in the bottom middle of the oblast, which is the red section below.

There is a geocache in the nearby city of Khust: UKRDOUG Castle Tours - Khust Fortress. The Khust Fortress was build in the 11th Century by the Hungarian King Ladislaus I. Unfortunately, the castle was destroyed by Mongolian warriors led by a son of Genghis Khan in 1243.

Happy Birthday to Anna Marie POULSEN of Ålborg, Denmark

.
Anna Marie POULSEN was my father's paternal grandmother. Her parents were Christian Peter POULSEN and Mathilde Marie LORENTZDATTER.

My grandfather, Poul Robert Werner POULSEN (1908-1979) was not raised by his mother. He was fostered by the BACH family of Nørresundby.

Anna Marie POULSEN had three children. Her first child, Poula Jorga Mathilde was born in 1906 and died that same year. My grandfather was the second child. Her third child, Carl Ewald, was born in 1910. We have been unable to discover any more about him.

Perhaps the greatest mystery for us is the father of Poul R.W. Poulsen. He met him only once, and considered the Bach family to be his true family. He did not tell his sons the name of his father before his death in 1979.

I do not know when Anna Marie died, or if she ever married. She did return home from the city of Aalborg to tend to her ailing parents.
.

Happy 212th Anniversary, Hans OLSEN & Maren JØRGENSDATTER of Eskilstrup, Maribo, Denmark

Hans OLSEN & Maren JØRGENSDATTER are my 5th Great-Grandparents. They were married May 3, 1799, in Eskilstrup.

I do not know where they were born.

Searching Eskilstrup baptisms, 1786 and earlier, no luck so far.
